Before you start hunting, you should know the following tips for thrift shopping clothes.
For a long time, I wanted to thrifting clothes. However, since I have no experience buying used clothes, I postpone buying them.
Moreover, the buying and selling of second-hand goods, including second-hand clothing, certainly cannot be separated from the work of sneaky traders. I was worried that I would get clothes that were beyond my expectations.
Incidentally, I have a friend who has a print and confection business or sewing clothes. A while ago, I stopped by his house. He’s been running the business since he graduated high school.
Other than being happy because we haven’t seen each other in a long time, I also took the time to ask how to get good used clothes. From the results of my chat with him, I noted there are three important tips for getting good clothes when thrifting.
Here are three tips for thrift shopping clothes:
#1 Touch the entire fabric part of the garment
The so-called used clothes, which are not covered, are likely to be defective. For example, hollows due to cigarette burns or tears due to sharp objects.
So, before buying used clothes, either top or bottom, touch the entire fabric, either on the inside or the outside. Pay close attention to these two sections. It aims to check whether there are tears or holes in the clothing.
#2 Check each connection on the fabric
My friend said some of the clothes received by used clothing traders are in a torn condition on the connection. Well, in torn joints, it’s sometimes punctured with patch stitches. Surely, the culprit of this thing is a crafty merchant.
These stitches aren’t actually for fixing torn joints. It’s to outwit shoppers to make their clothes look good. These patch stitches will come off after a few days of wear. That’s why, as I said at the beginning, buying and selling second-hand goods cannot be separated from crafty traders.
My college friend once bought black trousers at one of the thrifting spots. He is interested in buying it because it is cheap and the color still seems sharp.
It’s just, that there are tears in some pockets. After a few days, the joints in the middle of the back of his pants were torn. According to my friend’s explanation, the pants used patch stitching.
To check if there are any patch stitches on the joint, either on the top or bottom, do the following. First, get your clothes up.
Second, use your left hand to hold. While the right hand is used to pull clothes slowly. Then, do the opposite. If there’s a tear in the joint, then we better not buy it. In my opinion, this is a thrifting tip that must be done.
#3 Recognize the characteristics of the fabric
It’s another used clothing crafty trader who’s not honest about the type of fabric. A friend of mine who was a confectioner once bought a pajama set at one of the thrifting spots. According to the seller, this pajama cloth is made of cotton so it feels cool when worn. The cotton material does have a cool surface.
However, after my friend who was a confectioner checked it out, it turned out that this pajama cloth used polyester fabric.
The polyester fabric has a more cramped surface. So, from this point, if you want to thrifting clothes, don’t trust the seller too much. It is best to equip yourself with knowledge of the characteristics of the fabric. Don’t be fooled by what my friend, the confectioner, experienced.
After getting an explanation and thrifting tips from my friend, I plan to thrift clothes in several places. That is, three thrifting tips so that clothes are not tricked. Well, what do you say? Hopefully, the tips I put forward will be useful for those who will be thrifting clothes. Happy hunting!
