What does flannel shirt mean? While looking at the Uniqlo flannel shirt, for a moment I remembered Kurt Cobain’s figure. With Nirvana and his Nevermind album, the world seems to be taken in a different direction. All the slices, from the music, and the chaos, to the dressing style, are the legacy of a time that lasts until now.
From this figure, the flannel shirt that used to stick with other blue-collar carpenters is changing into an item you can easily find in any young boys themed space.
Honestly, I’m not a big fan of Nirvana. Even in the same era (the 90s), Liam Gallagher, Jarvis Cocker, and other Britpop-era musicians were probably more accustomed to the ear. However, when it comes to dressing, Kurt Cobain’s flannel has never been the wrong choice.
The Impressions of Flannel Shirt
Practical, simple, comfortable, and epoch-proof, the impression attached to a flannel shirt. Even so with the figure popularizing it.
A practical matter, without a doubt. When you run out of ideas to combine outfits, flannel will be an option. Put on a T-shirt, and flannel lining. Bam! Practical. I don’t even have to close the buttons.
If you are in a hurry, there’s no need to line it up. Now, the buttons that were opened “as the most popular flannel wearing pack”, are the reason why flannel remains relevant and comfortable. The reason is, flannel used to be related to winter clothes.
Because flannel isn’t always tied to a particular culture or era, it seems simple. Unless you’ve had too much of Kurt Cobain’s story and the story of the flannel.
Yes, compared to wearing a Liam-style parka, I’m sure you’ll count as a hooligan, maybe even as a member of the Vespa community, like my friend’s story. A duct shirt? Looks like Ardhito Pramono, may seem too edgy to take to hang out. Even so with a cotton shirt, which looks too neat. Or a hoodie? Okay, but wait a minute.
How About The Efficacy?
The question of the efficacy of the times has been proven. Five to ten years ago, how often did you see a duct shirt with “a little sighting of the chest” in a public place?
Even, do you see it worn by a country bumpkin like me? The same goes for the choice of retro fashion (other than flannel). Today it may seem catchy, but five years ago, in the era of skinny jeans still relevant, it might look old.
Flannel is different, it doesn’t look retro, and sometimes it doesn’t seem too up-to-date. But it’s consistent, it still looks appropriate for every age, and it can be found anytime, anywhere. No wonder, the flannel will always look young, or maybe even a little mature, if you want to button up and roll up the sleeves.
Even though flannel clings to Kurt Cobain, people don’t think you’re a fan of Nirvana. Yeah, because it’s always been common in all eras.
Flannel also, is often the first choice of fashion, for me. If I want to look relaxed, I just need to unbutton it. And if all the clothes in my wardrobe are not yet ironed, flannel is still the first option, as the best I’ve ever done.
Flannel are Relevant
Well, here’s what makes flannel relevant on all occasions. Hanging out in cafés, on campus, at gigs, and even at the wedding party. It is the efficacy that cannot be matched by a versatile outfit such as a hoodie.
Although, I’m sure wearing a flannel shirt to the wedding party is not a wise choice, at least I often see flannel at the wedding party of all kinds. Even if you look at it in the rural area.
Personally, flannel also helps young people who are often counted as a skinny guys like me, as the most relevant layer option.
Honestly, I don’t have much of a collection of flannel shirts. Yes, even though I am not a maniac of Nirvana, nor a maniac of flannel shirts, I cannot deny that flannel is a fashion choice that is always relevant in all eras and events. Are they not?
