According to the initial set of the universe, the earth and all its contents will always try to achieve balance. But among all kinds of living things, our common sense, man, is growing much more rapidly. After successfully building civilization and advanced technology, we began to think, “No, we are the greatest species destined to rule the earth!” This is the “Anthropocentric” concept that precedes the destruction of the earth. Now I will ask you, “What is the destruction of the Earth caused by Humans?”
Our Needs Have No Boundaries
To satisfy our personal needs, we have unconsciously broken the balance with nature. Today, there are about 7 and a half billion people on Earth and all of them need to eat. Finally, we try to produce as much food as possible without caring about its impact on the environment.
We start cutting down and burning forests to open up farmland. Every day, there is a forest as vast as the entire New York Central Park area that vanishes. We don’t realize that one person needs oxygen produced by at least 22 trees.
What we do, is otherwise. Furthermore, the land that has been opened grows continuously while we give chemical fertilizers so that it is fertile. We’re making the soil sour, and it can’t be planted anymore.
The way we use animals is just as severe. Since the advent of humans 200,000 years ago, countless animals have become extinct because we hunt them, or we crushed their habitat. Nowadays, modern industrial cattle produce methane whose greenhouse effect is more devastating than carbon dioxide.
The remains of fish feed that settled in the pond also poisoned the water with chemical compounds such as ammonia.
Pond waste is probably just one of the many other wastes that we throw into rivers, lakes, and the sea. Meanwhile, we still just siphon the groundwater, as if the earth consists of a lot of water. There is only a very little amount of water that we can drink.
Not only in the water but we’ve also polluted the air with various types of gases. For example, the gases we use for air conditioning and various spray. These gases are the cause of the depletion of the Ozone Layer in the Stratosphere.
Even though the Ozone Layer can protect the Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation. The use of fossil fuels in our factories, power plants, and motor vehicles also contributes a lot to carbon emissions. These gases not only disrupt our respiration but also add greenhouse gases that exacerbate global warming.
The Final Warning
And finally, global warming resulted in an even greater catastrophe. From climate change around the world, coral reef damage such as the Great Barrier Reef corals, the disappearance of polar ice that threatens the preservation of various animal species, and rising sea levels that can drown many countries in the next 100 years.
Unfortunately, there are still people who admit that environmental problems are only due to political and economic interests. Or maybe pretend to care, even if it’s just for personal gain. Now, we know the future that awaits our grandchildren on Earth. The question is, are we just going to give in to it? What is the destruction of the Earth caused by Humans in your opinion? Let me hear it.
