Until now, oil is still a major requirement for us in our daily lives. It can be a blessing and at the same time a source of conflict wherever it is. But, will the world ever run out of oil? If so, when will that happen?
A Number of Analysis
One analysis says that we passed the peak of oil production in the world in 2008. It is estimated that oil production in the world will continue to decline after 2008. The oil will only be able to meet our needs for the next 40 to 50 years. This prediction has also taken into account the production capabilities of countries with large oil reserves. These countries are Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Iran.
Another analysis says that oil production in the world will never run out in the next decades of years. Because our oil drilling techniques will increasingly be able to reach much deeper places than our current drilling technology. This is also supported by the economic view which says that as our oil production becomes more limited, we will look for more oil-efficient technologies so that our oil stocks will continue to exist.
But despite all that, the need to replace oil with other energy, which is cleaner and more renewable, is an urgent matter for us. This starts from our desire to reduce environmental pollution to our dependence on other countries. But, this is not easy because all aspects of our lives, have used oil as their energy source, and it will certainly be very difficult to replace it with other energy in a short time.
Yes, even if we know that we have to save on our oil usage now and switch to other energy. But, maybe in the meantime, we can emulate the sandwich seller of our home area who can continue to go around without using oil.
